Rock the Block Lockland:

Organizations Team Up for Exterior Home Repair & Neighborhood Clean-Up Project

Habitat for Humanity of Greater Cincinnati (HFHGC) has been helping families build strength, stability, and self-reliance through shelter for the last 31 years. On April 14, 2018, Habitat will be teaming up with local organizations to conduct exterior home repairs and a neighborhood clean-up project. Joining with HFHGC are the Village of Lockland and Lockland Schools. In addition to HFHGC’s exterior home repair projects, the combined organizations are calling all Lockland neighbors to help Rock the Block! Rock the Block is a neighborhood clean-up day with exterior home repair and maintenance, such as painting and landscaping. Rock the Block is Saturday, April 14, from 9 am – 3 pm. All are welcome at the kick-off event at 9 am at Roettger Stadium located at 124 Anna St., Lockland. Roettger Stadium will also serve as the volunteer communication center for Rock the Block, which will serve the blocks west of Roettger Field and South of Stewart Ave., and a second service area bordered by Patterson St., Mills St., Davis St., and Rolef Ave. The event will celebrate community and hope, rain or shine, and include a Closing Ceremony from 2:30 pm to 3 pm at Roettger Stadium located at 124 Anna St., Lockland.

All Rock the Block homeowner applications are now closed. Applicants must be the homeowner, own a home in need of minor exterior repairs, income within 30% to 80% of the area median income, and willingness to serve alongside volunteers during the Rock the Block event on April 14, 2018. A onetime $20 fee will be collected from each eligible and approved applicant. While this year’s Rock the Block will serve up to fifteen selected exterior home repair host sites, all neighbors are encouraged to participate. Rock the Block calls all neighbors, homeowners and renters, to be outside together, working in the yard, maintaining their homes, and having fun. In addition to exterior home repair projects, volunteers will support a neighborhood trash pick-up effort. Up to four large dumpsters will be available for trash drop-off. Neighbors are welcome to use of the dumpsters for trash removal (dumpsters cannot accept large appliances, hazardous chemicals and tires). For more information, please contact Habitat at 513-482-5614. Rock the Block events serve as an extension of Habitat for Humanity’s neighborhood revitalization initiative. The emphasis of this program is to help homeowners in specific neighborhoods with minor exterior home repairs such as painting and landscaping. Habitat for Humanity is now seeking volunteers to help spearhead the exterior repair initiative. To get involved with Rock the Block or exterior home repair programs, please contact Jennifer Kephart with Habitat for Humanity of Greater Cincinnati at 513-482-5644 or email at Jen.Kephart@habitatcincinnati.org.
