Global Village

Habitat for Humanity of Greater Cincinnati (HFHGC) is one of about 1,500 Habitat affiliates across the USA. Each Habitat affiliate is asked to tithe to support global building in one or more of the 70 international countries where Habitat for Humanity is active. Habitat Greater Cincinnati splits the tithe to support building in El Salvador, Kenya, Armenia, and Cambodia. In total in our 30 years, HFHGC and preceding local affiliates have contributed $2,697,604 which has enabled decent housing for 913 families across these four countries.

In addition to supporting global building with a tithe, HFHGC has been active with Global Village trips to El Salvador at least annually over the last six years and previously to Kenya in 2003. Global Village trips are a great way to make a difference elsewhere in the world and experience the local culture and people. “Language is not the barrier that we think it might be. My experience is that love and giving overcome the communication barrier of language,” said Ed Lee, HFHGC President & CEO, who has participated on builds in Haiti and El Salvador. Our vision is to have annual Global Village trips to each of our four partner countries. If you are interested in organizing and leading volunteers on a Global Village trip, please contact Volunteer Services at getinvolvedvolunteer@habitatcincinnati.org.

Ken Holloway (Volunteer Global Village Team Leader) will lead the next HFHGC Global Village Trips to El Salvador the weeks of June 10-17 and June 17-24 in 2017. This is an opportunity to join with 10-15 other volunteers to build for a week in El Salvador side by side with the future Habitat homebuyer. The estimated cost for the trip is $1600. If you are interested or have questions please contact Volunteer Services at getinvolvedvolunteer@habitatcincinnati.org.

The world is not such a large place as demonstrated through networking by the Blayne and Suzanna Smith family in the Cincinnati suburb of Wyoming. Blayne Smith participated in a Global Village trip to El Salvador in February 2015 and he is now trying to raise funds for a Habitat build for José De La Paz Ticas in El Salvador. Please read more at Global Village page on our website.

If you would like to make a donation to support HFHGC’s global building efforts or specifically to support the build for Jose and his family you can do so easily online .
