Volunteer

VolunteerHabitat for Humanity is a volunteer-driven organization. We welcome people from all walks of life to join us as we build simple, decent, affordable houses in partnership with God and families in need. Though the vast majority of volunteers have no construction experience or building skills, volunteers are involved in most phases of construction. By working side-by-side with the family who will live in the house, our volunteers experience for themselves the joy created when a family is able to realize their dream of home ownership.

Volunteer Opportunities
We are always looking for new volunteers who are willing to spend time with us in the following areas:

  • ConstructionVolunteer
  • ReStore
  • Family Services
  • Administration
  • Development

FAQs

The majority of Habitat’s volunteers donate their time on the construction site, building homes alongside our partner families and construction staff on Saturdays. No experience is necessary to volunteer with Habitat – we are a teaching organization! Tasks include framing, roofing, painting, landscaping and installing siding, windows, doors and insulation. Our work days begin at 8:00 a.m. and end around 3:00 p.m.

How do I sign-up?

The first step in volunteering is to register with our volunteer system. Once registered, you can then sign up for one of the volunteer opportunities. You will also need to complete the volunteer forms and bring them with you.

*Groups interested in volunteering should complete the interest form here. A volunteer coordinator will get in touch with you.

What is my commitment?

The commitment is up to you! You may work one time or as many as you wish. You may come as a part of a group, and then decide that you would like to continue volunteering as an individual. We are delighted to work with you to fit your needs and schedule.

What skills are required?
No specific skills are needed, just a willingness to learn and a positive attitude. Habitat provides an experienced site leader on each work site who will provide on-the-job training. Safety is important to us and, therefore, we provide free on-line safety training courses for those interested. Click here for more information.
What do I need to bring?
No tools are necessary, but if you have them you are encouraged to bring basics, such as a hammer, nail apron, tape measure, utility knife and a pencil. Please clearly label all of your tools with your name or initials. When required, we will provide hard hats and safety goggles. Water will be available, but you may wish to bring your own supply. It’s always a good idea to wear a hat and sunscreen when working outdoors. All volunteers are required to fill out the Volunteer Information Form and waiver and emergency medical form (Adult or Youth).
Where do I get the forms to be completed?
Right here! All volunteers are required to fill out the Volunteer Information Form and a Release & Waiver of Liability form (Adult or Youth). Both forms should be taken with you to your volunteer assignment.
Volunteer Information Form
Release & Waiver of Liability form – Adult
Release & Waiver of Liability form – Minor

What do I wear?
Footwear needs to be sturdy and closed-toe and closed-heel. Boots or sneakers are both considered appropriate footwear. Please prepare for the weather by checking the forecast before you arrive at the work site. If it is sunny, please bring a hat, sunscreen, and sunglasses. If it is raining, please bring a jacket, raincoat, and/or rain boots.
What will happen when I arrive at the site?
At the beginning of each workday, a Habitat site supervisor will begin the morning with a prayer, introductions, a safety talk and instructions. The group will then break into crews to work on the various building tasks.
How do I cancel my volunteer date?
Log-in to the same volunteer system you registered with to cancel your volunteer date. Groups that wish to cancel their volunteer day should contact the office directly.
